TikTok’s Great Lock-In: Why real men are choosing discipline over distraction

TikTok’s Great Lock-In: Why real men are choosing discipline over distraction

TikTok trends come and go, and some are more worthy than others. The trends tend to surge at the end of one year and the beginning of the next. We become eager beavers and try to press the start button on our fitness goals in the months leading up to the new year, or right when the new year begins, as part of our resolutions. “New year, new me.”

Lately, the Great Lock-In has been making the rounds on TikTok, showing people shaping up instead of winding down this year-end. While Thanksgiving and Christmas approach, TikTok’s Great Lock-In encourages self-improvement, discipline, and focus. Here’s what it’s all about.

What is TikTok’s Great Lock-In?

The idea is from September 1st to December 31st (or whenever you want to jump in and try it) you focus on improving your habits and making bigger strides toward your personal and fitness goals. Why wait until the new year when you could start now and use these months to prioritize your goals? With summer being the time for indulgence, fun, and holidays, instead of the Winter Arc, this year, we have TikTok’s Great Lock-In.

For most people, the Great Lock-In means staying committed to better nutrition, sleep, and a consistent workout plan while lowering time spent in front of digital screens.

Most popular wellness and fitness goals

Here are some of the most popular wellness and fitness goals people are dialing in this winter:

  • Lowering screen time.
  • Doing more cardio workouts.
  • Tracking macros.
  • Drinking more water and staying hydrated.
  • Hitting a daily protein target.
  • Training at least four times every week.
  • Improving sleep quality.
  • Cutting out the junk food.
  • Cutting out or limiting sugar intake.
  • Walking 10,000 steps a day.
  • Improve your morning routine.
  • Ditching alcohol.
  • Read at least 10 pages of a self-improvement book every day.

For some people, this includes finance and career-related goals. While some are tired of hearing about TikTok trends and challenges, others are motivated by it. On the plus side, this trend is a little more open-ended, allowing you to just choose one goal that you think might work best for you and zone in on that, rather than feeling like you have to be 100% perfect with 10 goals at once. Rather than trying to achieve perfection with all goals, for many of us, it’s better to focus on staying consistent with just one or two.

The proven benefits of working out in the winter months

With or without the latest TikTok trend, researchers found that working out in the great outdoors in the winter months can improve or maintain motor fitness, boost endurance, and even help protect against seasonal affective disorder.
